There are 2 main kinds of microdermabrasion: crystal-free and crystal. The crystal kind uses aluminum crystals that are sandblasted onto the skin. Dead cells are stripped away and the skin takes on a clean, freshened look. With crystal-free microdermabrasion, a vibrating diamond tip is used instead of sandblasted crystals. Suction is used with both systems to vacuum away dead cells.
